From the beginning
Our dream started in a 500 square foot space, serving up Gneiss Weiss, Tectonic Tomahawk, Au Nugget (retired) and Obsius from the garage door. In 2013 a community was established here in the woods of Limerick, many tell us it feels like family and we certainly feel the love. We are thankful for all the Gneiss patrons that have visited us off the beaten path since inception. These days we are rocking along in our 4000+ square foot facility, staying true to our dreams of producing clean, authentic styles to please your palate. Prost!
So, What does "Gneiss" mean?
GNEISS (/nīs/); noun
a metamorphic rock with a banded or foliated structure, typically
coarse-grained and consisting mainly of feldspar, quartz, and mica.
Why Gneiss? Dustin is an alumni of University of Maine Orono, where he obtained a B.S. in Earth Sciences and a M.S. in Geochemistry. With his love of Geology and water chemistry a Gneiss brewery erupted.
Sustainability
A self-coined Agrogeobrewery, Gneiss has raised pigs for over a decade helping to clear land. The pigs feed on spent grain and garden scraps from the Gneiss garden where ingredients such as hops, pumpkins and strawberries are grown for beer projects. We strive to reduce our footprint and recycle or compost nearly all of our "waste". Additionally, we supply local farms with spent grain.
We like to keep it local, fresh and eco-friendly.
