Work Hard. PLay Hard. Be Gneiss!

German-style beer from the woods of maine

Welcome to Gneiss!

Pronounced 'Nice' (The G is silent)

Gneiss was founded in 2013 as a passion project between two friends, and has grown to become a destination for all those who seek out unique beers in a unique place. Head Brewer and Co-Founder Dustin Johnson is inspired to create balanced beers that pay respect to the rich German tradition of brewing and layer them with the nuance and eccentricity of modern brewing. Co-Founder and Marketing/Tasting Room manager Tim Bissell has a penchant for puns and pints, and by putting their heads together, Gneiss was born.  We look to our German heritage, our love of science and our Maine way of living to bring you truly 'rock-able' beers!

Gneiss is located in the foothills of the White Mountains, deep in the woods of rural Limerick, ME. We welcome you to visit us during our tasting room hours and experience the myriad flavors we create here and to enjoy the bucolic views of our woodland brewery.

April 15th - Earth's Axis Showcase Event! (Noon - 4pm) @ Gneiss Brewing Company
Last year, we introduced a pilot beer program at the brewery that we call Earth's Axis, an ever rotating series of experimental shot batches of beer that we put on tap in the tasting room. To celebrate this pilot program, we are having an Earth's Axis Showcase! Each of the 10 beers on tap this day will be an Earth's Axis rendition. We will have a great variety of beer on tap, all of it with only 5 gallons available! If you like trying new things, or just want to see what we have been experimenting with throughout the year, come on by!!!

*Well, yes with a few caveats. We ask that your dog is well behaved, is good with other dogs and humans, and remains on leash and with their human while they are here. Unfortunately, due to State regulations, we can no longer allow dogs to enter the brewery building, but we are more than happy to host you and your pup in our outdoor space (weather dependant, of course).
